Everyone has a different started point in second life.
Some of us came without any or little prior experience on this type of game, others came from IMVU or Sims with an idea of what to expect.
The only thing I had play that resemble second life in some way was Habbo (long long long time ago) and Avakin life. Mind you that the last one I drop it few weeks later cause I somehow found it "overwhelming".
I can only laugh at it know.
Second Life was like a Bomb of information slapping at my face without mercy.
When I landed and finished the welcome tutorial I just stayed there without any idea what to do next. I remember thinking that the Avatar that I had, look NOTHING like the cool pictures I had seen in ads.
Like, have you seen the Av's in the main page of second life? If not, go look a it!
Meanwhile I was Trixie.
See any difference? Cause I for sure did!
Then someone reach out to me out of nowhere, and one perk was that she spoke the same language than me. Spanish!
That was heaven in flesh. Though I knew my little bit of English I wasn't sure to be able to understand everything they taught me in another language than my main one. They took me under their wings and in a wink I had a mother, father, brothers, sisters and a family of vampires, even enemy clans.
My mom (most patient human/vampire being I have met) walked me through a make-over that was under my budget, say 0 Lindens. In that time Akeruka had the Andro Head as a gift group, so she gave me 100L, told me how to join the group and took me to a tour to get a free body, free hair, free clothes (Bless Palomma Casanova (RIP) for the then "Free Dove" and now "Palomma Plaza") and other stuff to make a more contemporary and realistic Avatar than Trixie.
I'm gonna made another post to showcase the first look that I made.
And that's how my Second Life started, being lucky enough to meet kind people that help me through it, gave me my own room on a big castle, made me a vampire, trained me to fight and took me to clubs so I could mop the floor dancing.
